Red Wagon Design (RWD) was officially founded in 2009, but my origin story dates back to a much earlier time. It’s not an exaggeration to say that my first clients were the inhabitants of the childhood dollhouse that my Dad built, styled with carpet remnants, furniture, and yes, even wallpaper!  However, my true “professional” “a-ha” moment came in the late 1990s when my duties as a Creative Director for a retail/fashion consulting firm expanded to include a redesign and build-out of its’ Manhattan headquarters. This experience solidified what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, one space at a time.

RWD represents the marriage of my personal and professional selves: aesthetic obsessive meets micro-manager, created at the moment I most needed to apply my critical work-based organizing skills to life at home.  As the concept took shape, I vigorously applied much of what I had learned throughout my 20+ years of creative project management and marketing. I learned fast that what others have in design degrees, I have in heart, love and passion for what I do. The growth of RWD happened organically as referrals from friends and family abounded from single room refreshes, to large scale renovations and everything in between. After spending the early years working from home, it was apparent that we were expanding beyond my home office.

Now, with a full service design studio and an amazing team of design partners, RWD is fulfilling my vision of a “creative collaborative” dedicated to curating and designing happier living spaces through collaboration with our Clients.  While interior design assistance does come at a cost, it is not limited to those with unlimited budgets.  We help a diverse client roster, ranging from a one room refresh, an updated window treatment, a kitchen or bathroom remodel, as well as full scale gut renovations. Our approach is to ensure that the Client feels comfortable and empowered throughout the process, without any pressure or intimidation. While we may encourage you to explore options outside your comfort zone, we always prioritize your preferences and vision. This is your home, and our role is to assist you in discovering your unique style and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

A truly successful design requires an in-depth understanding of how the space will be used by all who will use it. In most of our work, that includes pets. Once we understand the functional requirements of the space, we start forming its aesthetic character, using inspiration photos to align on the look and feel the Client wants for their space. This step is essential to creating spaces that reflect a client’s unique style and personality.

Once we arrive at a plan that is agreeable to all, we develop the sourcing plan to achieve those goals. It is a misconception that clean, functional design cannot also be affordable. We put all of the pieces of the puzzle together to create a result that fits your needs and budget. Working collaboratively with talented colleagues and a creative team has influenced my design sensibilities over the years to appreciate all the different styles that this amazing job offers me to experience. But what always stays the same is wanting each space to feel like a true reflection of the client that lives there, and what truly makes them happy in their home. But it’s the management of the project, the nuts-and-bolts part of any transformation that may not be sexy but must be appreciated, that distinguishes our work. We can counsel you on how to outfit a room to fit your needs and budget, on how to blend the highs and the lows, and how to incorporate a unique vintage find or a happy pop of fun that will make you smile when you walk into your room.
